Daystate Black Wolf TAC C-Type

$3,000.00

Daystate understands better than any other airgun company that, to stay relevant, progress must be ongoing, new ideas investigated and pursued. That’s why, for 50 years, Daystate has been in a state of constant development, making major leaps forward in airgun technology. In fact, many features found on other airgunmakers’ rifles were pioneered by Daystate.

In its UK 12 ft/lbs format, the compact and handy Blackwolf measures just 980mm and weighs as little as 2.9kg (according to stock type). Balance, as you might expect balance is perfect and the rifle points almost instinctively.

As much as Blackwolf has to offer 12 ft/lbs shooters in .177 and .22, it’s the higher-powered versions are where the performance part of the package really comes into play. The Blackwolf features the largest regulator chamber ever fitted to a Daystate PCP. Also, its 20-level power wheel operates a progressive shaft, allowing you to gear hammer spring-tension to exactly what’s needed.

Another fantastic feature is the ability to change caliber and barrel lengths in minutes – a feature Daystate initially developed on its Delta Wolf. Four barrel calibers, plus the ability to adjust power levels truly makes the concept of ‘multiple rifles in one’ a reality.

In addition to the barrel,  hammer springs, spring tension and regulator pressure can all be changed on-the-fly. This lets you tune the rifle to a specific power and projectile combination if you wish. Note the word ‘projectile’. Yes, Blackwolf has been designed to also take our 711mm SLUG barrel!

Blackwolf is a gun platform, and follows the company’s modular design philosophy. So, many components are interchangeable. In fact, all stocks, barrels, air bottles and air cylinders are available separately, making it possible to change and upgrade Blackwolf as and when your shooting needs change.

It suits a broad spectrum of uses, including hunting medium-sized quarry, precision paper punching, and general recreational shooting. Many users find the .22 provides an optimal sweet spot between pellet availability, affordability, and downrange effectiveness.
  • .25 (6.35mm): Shooters seeking more substantial energy delivery often select this caliber. The .25 shines in scenarios requiring deeper penetration and higher knockdown power, such as certain hunting applications or long-range target work. Its heavier projectiles maintain momentum better, which many enthusiasts value in windy conditions or when engaging slightly larger targets.
  • .30 (7.62mm): This represents the high-power end of the spectrum. The .30 caliber has been optimized for maximum energy transfer, particularly in FAC/export models. It appeals strongly to dedicated long-range shooters and hunters who demand superior terminal ballistics with slugs or heavy pellets. Impressive muzzle energies exceeding 120 ft/lbs have been achieved in optimized setups, showcasing the platform’s true capability.

By offering these four calibers, the Daystate Black Wolf TAC C-Type accommodates everyone—from those prioritizing speed and precision in smaller bores to those requiring raw power in larger diameters. Quick calibre swaps, enabled by the interchangeable barrel system, mean you can reconfigure the rifle in minutes without specialized tools in most cases.

Transitioning between calibers feels seamless because Daystate has refined the breech and probe design for reliable feeding and consistent performance across options. Magazines are caliber-specific, with capacities typically around 13 shots in .177, 11 in .22, 10 in .25, and 8 in .30 for standard configurations—numbers that support efficient shooting sessions.

Barrel Configurations: Length, Material, and Optimization

Premium Lothar Walther barrels form the heart of the Daystate Black Wolf TAC C-Type’s accuracy. These barrels have been precision-manufactured and paired with Daystate’s innovative systems to ensure outstanding consistency and grouping potential.

Three primary barrel lengths are available, each influencing handling, velocity, and suitability for different projectiles:

  • 430mm (17-inch) Barrel: This compact option keeps the overall length around 980mm, resulting in a highly maneuverable rifle weighing approximately 2.9kg unscoped in the C-Type cylinder configuration. It performs excellently with pellets in .177 and .22 calibers, delivering snappy handling ideal for close-to-medium range work, woodland hunting, or dynamic shooting. The shorter length also aids in reduced overall weight and quicker target acquisition.
  • 600mm (23-inch) Barrel: This intermediate length strikes an effective balance between velocity gains and practical handling. It supports all four calibers (.177, .22, .25, and .30) and is particularly well-suited for pellet shooting in higher-power setups. Overall length extends to about 1130mm, with a weight around 3.1kg. Many shooters prefer this configuration for its versatility across hunting and target disciplines.
  • 711mm (28-inch) Barrel: Designed as a dedicated long-range powerhouse, this option (especially the slug-optimized variant) maximizes velocity and stability for extended distances. It accommodates .177 through .30 calibers and shines with heavier slugs. The rifle reaches approximately 1257mm overall and about 3.3kg, providing the stability needed for precision at 100+ yards. Slug-specific rifling and twist rates have been developed by Daystate’s Accuracy Research Team to enhance gyroscopic stability.

All barrels are fully shrouded in carbon fibre for improved sound suppression and aesthetics, with a 1/2” UNF thread at the muzzle for easy silencer attachment. The ART (Advanced Rifle Technology) tensioned barrel system is available on select models, increasing rigidity and further enhancing long-range accuracy by minimizing harmonics and vibration.

Quick-change capability stands as one of the most celebrated features. Barrel assemblies, including the corresponding breech probe, can be swapped efficiently. This modularity allows owners to maintain one core action while possessing dedicated setups for pellets versus slugs, short-range maneuverability versus long-range reach, or different power levels.

Such engineering means the Daystate Black Wolf TAC C-Type adapts to seasonal changes, evolving shooting interests, or specific competition rules without requiring an entirely new rifle.

Power Adjustment and Regulation: Total Control at Your Fingertips

Advanced power management distinguishes the Daystate Black Wolf TAC C-Type. It features the largest regulator chamber ever fitted to a Daystate PCP, paired with a 20-stage tool-free power adjuster and a progressive hammer spring system. This combination provides unprecedented consistency and tunability.

The power wheel, located for easy access, allows incremental adjustments from MIN (typically around 60% of maximum) to MAX. Higher settings increase hammer spring tension progressively, tailoring output to the chosen projectile, caliber, barrel length, and shooting scenario. No tools are required for basic adjustments, making on-the-range fine-tuning practical and user-friendly.

Regulation excellence ensures shot-to-shot velocity variations remain minimal. The oversized plenum (with optional Volumax upgrade on TAC models) supports stable pressure delivery even under demanding high-power use. Fill pressures reach up to 250 bar, supporting competitive shot counts depending on configuration.

Real-world power outputs vary significantly:

  • In UK-legal sub-12 ft/lbs setups (typically .177 or .22 with shorter barrels), consistent and efficient performance is delivered with high shot counts—often 200+ shots per fill in optimized tunes.
  • Mid-power and FAC/export configurations unlock substantially higher energies: .22 can reach 45–83+ ft/lbs depending on barrel length; .25 up to 84–93 ft/lbs; .30 up to 125–135 ft/lbs in longer barrels.

These figures highlight the platform’s scalability. A single rifle can be detuned for club use or competitions requiring lower power, then quickly adjusted for full potential in appropriate environments.

Additional tuning options, such as alternative hammer springs or regulator adjustments (via Huma-Air components in some setups), provide even deeper customization for reloaders and precision enthusiasts seeking to optimize specific pellet/slug weights.griffin gun

How Caliber, Barrel, and Power Interact for Optimal Results

Understanding the relationships between these elements helps shooters make informed choices. Shorter barrels in smaller calibers generally favor higher shot counts and quicker handling at sub-12 ft/lbs. Longer barrels with larger calibers and higher power settings maximize velocity and energy for slugs at distance, though they trade some shot count and maneuverability.day state

For example:

  • A .177 17” C-Type setup tuned conservatively offers excellent efficiency and low recoil for extended sessions.

FAQ

  • Spring-Piston (Break-Barrel or Underlever): Cock by compressing a spring. Reliable, no external air source needed, but can have more recoil (“spring twang”) and require technique to shoot accurately.
  • Pre-Charged Pneumatic (PCP): Filled from a scuba tank, compressor, or pump. High power, low recoil, multiple shots per fill. Popular for precision and hunting.
  • CO₂: Powered by disposable cartridges. Good for pistols and semi-auto/repeaters, but performance drops in cold weather.
  • Multi-Pump Pneumatic: Hand-pumped to build pressure. Versatile but requires effort.
  • Gas Ram (Nitro Piston): Uses compressed gas instead of a metal spring. Smoother than traditional springers.

Calibers: Most common are .177 (4.5mm) for speed/flat trajectory and general use, and .22 (5.5mm) for better hunting knockdown power. Larger “big bore” (.25, .30, .357+) exist for hunting bigger game where legal.

Yes, many modern PCP and springers deliver enough energy for small game (rabbits, squirrels, birds) and even larger game in some areas. Muzzle energy (in ft-lbs or joules) matters more than velocity alone. Always match caliber, pellet weight, and energy to the game and check local hunting regs.

Treat every airgun as if it is loaded.

  • Always point the muzzle in a safe direction.
  • Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
  • Know your target and what is beyond it (pellets can ricochet or travel far).
  • Wear eye protection.
  • Store unloaded, out of reach of children/untrained users, and ideally locked.
  • Never shoot at hard surfaces or in areas where pellets could escape your property.

Follow these rules strictly—airguns cause real injuries.

Laws differ dramatically by country, state/province, and even city. Always verify current local laws before buying, owning, transporting, or using an airgun. Age restrictions (often 18+) are common.

Examples (summaries only; check official sources):

  • UK: Air rifles ≤12 ft-lbs (16.3 joules) and pistols ≤6 ft-lbs generally do not require a license (FAC needed above that).
  • USA: Varies by state. Some treat powerful airguns as firearms; others do not. Many states now allow big-game hunting with air rifles.
  • Canada: Some airguns classified as firearms if they exceed velocity/energy thresholds.
  • Australia: Often treated as firearms; licensing/registration required in most states.
  • EU/France/Belgium/etc.: Varies; many allow low-power (<20J) guns freely to adults, with higher power needing permits. Germany has strict ~7.5J limits in some contexts.
  • Other countries: Some have no restrictions below certain energies; others ban or heavily regulate them.

Resources: Wikipedia “Air gun laws”, airgun forums, or official government sites. For travel, research transit laws carefully.

Consider:

  • Purpose: Plinking/backyard → lower power springer or CO₂. Hunting/precision → PCP.
  • Budget: Entry-level springers are affordable; PCPs need a fill system (extra cost).
  • .177 vs .22: .177 easier for beginners/targets; .22 better for hunting.
  • Power source: Convenience vs performance.
  • Test pellets in your gun—accuracy varies.

Buy from reputable dealers and consider warranties.

  • Clean barrel periodically (especially if accuracy drops) with patches and appropriate tools/solvents. Avoid over-oiling.
  • Lubricate moving parts and seals with airgun-specific oil (not general gun oil). Springers need piston seal oil occasionally.
  • Check screws, seals for leaks (PCP), and safety mechanisms regularly.
  • Store in a cool, dry place, ideally in a case. Avoid leaving cocked for long periods.

Follow your model’s manual. Basic care extends life significantly.

International shipping may be available for select products. Customers are responsible for understanding and complying with their local import laws and regulations before ordering.

Yes. Customers are required to confirm their order number through WhatsApp or Live Chat before orders are processed and shipped.

If local laws prevent shipment to your area, your order may be canceled and refunded according to our store policy.

Processing typically takes 1–3 business days after payment confirmation. Delivery times vary depending on destination, carrier, and product availability.

  • Wrong pellets for your barrel/caliber.
  • “Death grip” or poor shooting form (especially with springers—let the gun recoil naturally).
  • Loose scopes or mounts.
  • Ignoring safety or local laws.
  • Over-oiling or shooting with obstructions.

Pellets are the most common projectile (lead or lead-free). Match them to your gun, caliber, and purpose—test several brands as accuracy varies by barrel.

  • Domed (Round-Head): Best all-rounder. Excellent accuracy, ballistic coefficient, and energy retention. Ideal for target shooting, field target, and general hunting (e.g., JSB Exact, Air Arms Diabolo Field, H&N Field Target Trophy).
  • Wadcutter (Flat-Head): Clean holes in paper. Best for close-range target/plinking (under 20-25 yards).
  • Hollow Point: Expands on impact for better energy dump. Good for small game hunting (e.g., Predator Polymag, H&N Terminator).
  • Pointed: More penetration, but often less accurate than domed.
  • Slugs: Heavier, more aerodynamic for high-power PCPs at longer ranges (better for big game where legal).

Tips: Heavier pellets in .22/.25 for hunting (better momentum). Lighter in .177 for speed/flat trajectory. Always check head size fit (e.g., 4.51-4.53mm variants).

Muzzle energy (ft-lbs or joules) matters more than velocity. Ethical shots require precise placement (head/heart-lung) within effective range.

Rough Guidelines (adjust for distance, pellet, and local laws):

  • Small game (squirrels, rabbits, birds): 9-20+ FPE, .177/.22.
  • Medium (raccoons, etc.): 25+ FPE, .22/.25 recommended.
  • Larger game: 40-100+ FPE in .30+ calibers (up to big bore for deer/hogs where permitted).

PCPs dominate serious hunting due to power and shot count. Springers/gas rams work well for small game but require skill. Always prioritize clean kills and check seasons/species rules.

  • Barrel Cleaning: Use a pull-through kit or rod with patches. Avoid brushes that could damage rifling. Clean when accuracy drops or after 500-1000 shots.
  • Lubrication: Airgun-specific silicone oil for seals/O-rings (sparingly—excess causes dieseling in springers). Springers may need piston lube periodically.
  • PCP Specific: Check for leaks (soapy water test), monitor regulator/hammer settings, and keep fill systems clean. Don’t exceed rated pressure.
  • General: Tighten stock screws, inspect for wear, store properly. Chronograph shots to track consistency.

Common Issues:

  • Inconsistent velocity → dirty barrel, bad pellets, or seal problems.
  • Spring “twang” → tuning or proper hold.
  • Low power → worn seals or under/over-pumping.

Toggle Content

  • Scopes: Airgun-rated (hold zero under recoil). 3-9x or 4-12x common.
  • Fill Systems: Hand pumps, compressors, or tanks for PCPs.
  • Safety Gear: Eye/ear protection, targets with backstops.
  • Noise: Airguns quieter than firearms, but moderators help further.

Budget Tip: Start with a quality springer (~$150-400) before investing in PCP setup.

Airgunning offers endless depth—from backyard plinking to precision competition and ethical hunting. Prioritize safety, legality, and practice. If you want specifics (e.g., recommendations for a country, budget, hunting small game, or a particular type like PCP vs springer), let me know for more targeted info! Shoot responsibly.

Tuning improves accuracy, reduces noise/recoil, or increases power (within legal limits).

  • Springers: Lighter springs, guides, seals, or custom tuning kits for smoother shot cycle. “V-Mach” or similar professional tunes popular.
  • PCPs: Regulator tuning, hammer spring adjustments, valve work for efficiency and shot count. Some add electronic systems.
  • Accessories: Suppressors (often unregulated on airguns), better triggers, stocks, and scopes.

Caution: Check laws—power increases may reclassify your gun. DIY only if experienced; professional tuners recommended.
